I know a lot of cool people.

[livejournal.com profile] jonsinger just sent me email containing a picture of a tree kangaroo, an explanation of why he was sending me a picture of a tree kangaroo, and the suggestion to sprinkle a bit of cinnamon on bacon before cooking it.

At least your friends explain why they're sending you these things.

I got an e-mail from my friend Ben that had a link, then "Thought of you. --Ben." I followed the link, and it was about two Gila monsters who had eaten their owner's corpse after he'd died and not been discovered by anyone. I was dismayed. Eventually I got up the courage to ask Ben why, exactly, this made him think of me. Turns out he forgot to add the bit he thought of, which was, "But they only wanted to grok him in fullness!" and I was the only one of his friends who had read enough SF to get it. Sigh.

I keep a list of things people have said made them think of me. It's very disturbing.

Sorry, it turns out to be merely a previously-believed-extinct Papuan tree kangaroo, of which one Papuan wrote

There was once a tree-kangaroo at Sweipini that had a face just like you white men. We called it Weimanke. My father caught one when I was a little boy, but it is long gone now. The earthquake [of 1934] killed them all ...

I vaguely remember the quest to identify that critter. Cool.
