The Transit Workers Union has rejected the proposed contract by a vote of 11,234 members against to 11,227 in favor. This means they and the MTA either go back to the bargaining table, or into arbitration.
Methinks that the TWU is in for a messy political struggle (well, that they're in the middle of a messy political struggle). Hopefully, there won't be too much -more- fallout (since seen through that lens, the strike was also part of internal politics) to those of us outside, but I wouldn't bet much on either direction.

As of this morning, it's unclear whether the TWU leadership will try a recount. (The vote this time was by Internet and telephone, not paper ballots.)
