The short hair is taking some getting used to.

Not how it looks: that's easy, if only because I don't spend that much time looking at my hair in the mirror.

But it feels different. I have these layers to run my hand through, instead of either lots of long straight hair, or a braid to play with. Andy isn't braiding my hair in the mornings anymore, and I'm not undoing it as the last thing before I go to bed at night. Showering feels different, with no need for the showercap, and far less hair to wash when it's time for that.

And then there's the hairdryer, to get the curls after I wash it. There's no really good place to plug it in, the way our apartment is set up right now. I unplug the humidifier (in the bedroom), plug the dryer in, and do my best to handle it with one hand and the (new, round) brush with the other. It would be handy to be ambidextrous, though I suspect this process will get easier with practice. At least there's no risk of dropping the hairdryer into bathtub or sink, this way.

Aaaack! from ers

You did WHAT??? Now you AND Andy have defected.... waaah. Pardon the ritual kvetch when someone with nice long hair cuts it; of course you can play with your appearance and enjoy it. Actually, it sounds like you did it right, and I've seen Theresa (sp?) with some very good hair cuts, so you got a reference from the right person.

I do look forward to seeing this -- post a picture or come to Boskone, eh? :-}

Difference of perspective

Now, I'm in the same position as you - except that short hair was always my norm. So, although I went through the stage of feeling strange about showering, and running my hands through layers instead of sheets - oh, and throwing the brush across the room on the second or third time I went to give my lack-of-locks a vigorous going over... now, I feel like I remember feeling. Everyone who's known me since before 1995 says, yes, we remember. Everyone else is going But!!!!

Strange.
