It's been a thoroughly productive day, though there was a while there when I felt as though all the accomplishments had involved spending money. Several did: I bought a (used) Palm Vx on EBay, and half a pound of Assam tea and some more toothpaste in the Village (two different stores). But I also had a good workout, and got my teeth cleaned (which, yes, costs money).

By the end of the workout, I had been convinced that I will never take a "spin" class, because even if I could handle being yelled at that way, the volume is almost certainly dangerously high. It was unpleasantly loud in nearby areas outside the "spin studio", whose doors were wide open; while it's possible that people who take that class find the yelling to be a useful motivator, hearing someone yell at a group of people that they aren't pushing hard enough while cycling is not useful while I'm doing bicep curls, crunches, or stretches. Also, I found--no real surprise--that I can't get back to the weights I'd been using pre-bronchitis as fast as I'd blithely hoped.

I also had a less than satisfying lunch, at Grand Sichuan. The "lunch special" menu is fairly standard Cantonese food, and I suspect I'd have done better to ignore it and order from the regular menu, or go someplace that specializes in Cantonese cooking. But it was decent Cantonese food. I got up, about 3/4 of the way through my meal, to go to the bathroom; I deliberately moved the rest of the food from the big serving platter, and some rice, on my plate to help indicate that I wasn't done. Nonetheless, when I got back upstairs, my table had been cleared completely, down to the teapot and tablecloth. I got an apology when I pointed out the mistake, but had to ask for a pot of tea back, and no other help was offered. They did eventually bring the usual plate of orange slices and fortune cookie, along with the bill--since I'd been dithering about whether I was hungry enough to finish my vegetables before I got up, I decided to leave it at that, drink my tea, and go to the dentist.

Something--exercise? Weather? Good luck?--had me in a fine mood, despite both the small annoyances above; the need to change buses because the first one was taken out of service halfway through; and the discovery that a shop I'd hoped would have something for [livejournal.com profile] rysmiel is out of it, and doesn't expect it for another couple of weeks.

I've heard from the recruiter I emailed yesterday, and have an appointment to go talk to her, and take a proofreading test, next Wednesday.

Also, there's purple clover blooming in the park, and the locusts are just starting.

Cardio, 20 minutes, top heart rate 155 (but I don't really trust the heart rate monitor, it jumped around too wildly)
