In the course of my wandering and gathering today, I passed a streetcorner political table. It mostly looked reasonable enough: signs against the war in Iraq and comparing Bush and Pinochet. Then I saw the sign that not only mentioned Lyndon La Rouche, but the Treaty of Westphalia. They didn't say whether they were for or against the Peace of Westphalia, but it seems a bit late for their opinions on the matter to have much weight.

Ah, yes. Lyndon's people.

I have had other people make comments about the Treaty of Westphalia in political arguments: once, about unilateral action by states; and once in some comment about personhood and individuality.

Neither of them seemed as crazy as the La Rouchians, but it did leave one scratching one's head.

Fa ra fa si la sol fa fa,
Be welcome in Westphalia!
A scene of sweet simplicity,
Teutonical rusticity.
All hail, Westphalia!

Of course, that was before the War of the Austrian Succession.

People are stranger than one would imagine.

Treaty of Westphalia? That's a new one on me.

My favorite fending off of LaRouchies was taken from a sign hanging from their table outside the Post Office. I simply told them that I was pro-sodomy, and gosh they left me alone.
