Of course, that you can see this means the problem has been alleviated.

I got up this morning to find that both LiveJournal and my ISP (panix.com) were down. LJ, as the status page showed, was taking a long time to rebuild databases after a power loss. What's going on with Panix is weirder: according to the message of the day, something weird happened to the global DNS, such that the rest of the net doesn't recognize Panix's identity/location. So it's possible to dial in, and I was able to download email that arrived before the [presumed] attack. But I can't get new email through that route (and my redbird.org and livejournal.com addresses forward to panix). Also, my Web site, including my non-LJ Web log, is off the net.

I'm not entirely cut off: plenty of people know my phone number, and more can find it. I can post to other places, given appropriate permissions/access. AIM is still working (and in fact an AIM message just came in about this, from a fellow Panixista). It's not even as much of a cutoff as the blackout a couple of summers ago, when of course I had no net access at all.

But I'm not used to being able to read but not post, and I'm unused to the idea that I'll be down and not appear down. (Said fellow Panixista suggests that the email through Panix is being intercepted, rather than bounced or list.) I've just changed the forwarding on vr@redbird.org (and am mentioning it here mostly so I'll remember to change it back).
