Our old futon sagged badly, and the resulting lumps were hurting our backs. Especially Andy's. So we went downtown Sunday, and bought a new one. It's a seven-layer cake of a futon, with cotton, wool, and foam layers. The store was able to deliver that afternoon, so Andy went home to wait, and we slept last night on our comfortable new bed. The cat doesn't seem happy with it: it has that odd vague hemp smell all new futons seem to come with, instead of smelling like us. She'll adjust, as we add our body odors, as she puts fur on it, and as the new-bed smell dissipates.

(Yes, this is prosaic: I'm trying to post something every day or two, just to keep in touch. I'm feeling fragile, and suspect some of you are as well, so contact is good.)

Prosaic can be very good, yes. It's good to be reminded that life goes on, minute by minute. A friend of mine is terrified that his joblessness is going to leave him homeless; once I got him thinking in terms of "Okay, where will I spend the first night, and what will I do the day after that?" it was much easier to form a game plan. Details can be very grounding when the big picture is so scary.

So, thank you for the prose. *)
