Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] cattitude and I spent a very casual afternoon and evening at [livejournal.com profile] roadnotes and [livejournal.com profile] baldanders's home. I was in an odd mood most of the day--keyed up, both floating stress and a tendency to find things far more amusing than I otherwise would.

I was very glad, not so much to not be dealing with specific relatives, as not to be dealing with any large crowd or with difficult travel or logistics. At one point I observed that there were probably half a dozen people I could deal with at that moment, and three of them were in that apartment. There probably were more than that, but not many more. There are far more than half a dozen people in the world I like: this was more the ease of familiarity without the unpleasant background of familiar arguments--like the standard political argument between my father and uncle for many years of family holiday meals. Good food, and possibly too much of it (as in, I may have had a bit too much pie for my own comfort--I needed to sit and do nothing for a while after dessert), and we took the duck carcass home because they've had bad luck with duck broth in the past and weren't going to bother. Baldanders and Roadnotes have a new travel Scrabble set, and we got to see the letters pop out when others were played next to them, as well as having the usual fun with words and gameplay.
