redbird: closeup of pale purple crocuses (crocuses)

On the way to the doctor's office this afternoon, I saw two violets (on 218th Street, just west of Park Terrace West). I was and am surprised: I've seen violets in the Fall before, but only after a frost, and I don't think we've had one this season.

Actual violets? How odd. I've seen lilac in autumn (bad idea) and, of course, autumn crocus (I've got some in my back yard now), but never violets.

There are rhododendrons blooming here. *Really* a bad idea.

Today it was 81 F with 75% humidity. What is this, Virginia or something?

There were quite a few flowers on my forsythia bushes Sunday, when I was doing yardwork around them. No violets though.

I suppose it's the weather, sometimes warm, sometimes cold, that has the plants thinking it's spring.
