It has now been long enough since I took the last dose of the prednisone (six days) that it's reasonable for me to use naproxen again, and that is making a real difference. I woke up with pain in my left hip both yesterday and today, took a naproxen this morning, and am feeling a lot better. Still not exactly bouncy, but this is the difference between really not wanting to go as far as the sidewalk, and taking the trash out being OK. (That means walking around to the back of our building; the alternative is going down a spiral staircase, about two flights of descent, and then climbing back up, which I don't like even aside from needing to keep one hand free for the railing.)

I took tylenol a few times in the last few days, as better than nothing, but either this isn't the sort of pain tylenol is good for (certainly possible), or it doesn't work well for me.

Tylenol is mostly not really a painkiller for me, and some of my siblings say the same. Would be interesting to know if there is a genetic reason. I have found that when I have more serious pain that alternating ibuprofen and Tylenol does seem to work, somehow, and it does bring down fevers pretty well.

The first time I took Tylenol, I was trying it for menstrual cramps, and it did nothing whatsoever about them. But it works for migraines, who knows why; also worked on the pain of a bruised rib, which makes no sense to me, and on osteoarthritis in my knee.

Drugs are weird.

You would think it would have to do with whether there was inflammation or not, but yeah, not much pattern that I can see. It would be nice to have personalized prescriptions that really made sense and weren't glorified astrology.

Yay for having meds that work sometimes, and knowing which ones work when.

Also yay for being able to take them again, after a hiatus.
