It's raining again, and lurking in the mid-60s Fahrenheit. This is about the least summery summer solstice I can remember. However, there are cherries for sale all over--I bought two pounds for $3 on Canal Street--and good strawberries at the Greenmarket.

I met [livejournal.com profile] eleanor, the man she calls H-B, and her stepdaughter Betsy, and [livejournal.com profile] volund for dim sum today. As seems to be our norm, much good food and not much conversation--I suspect the layout of dim sum places is to blame, since I never seem to get to talk much beyond "how much sticky rice should we get?" when I have dim sum. I'd bought a pound of ginger just before lunch, also on Canal Street, for a dollar; I gave Ellie part of it, since there's no way I'll use a pound of ginger before it goes bad.

By the time we finished lunch, it was raining steadily. I walked a bit with Volund, and then we caught the uptown IRT. Union Square provided not only strawberries, but shallots and mushrooms (mmm dinner) and some periwinkles (the flower, not the animal) to plant if when the rain lets up for a bit.

I fed [livejournal.com profile] porcinea's animals and had a cup of tea. Karma was a nuisance, one of the rabbits tried to nip my hand to get at a raisin, and Trouble was a delight, rubbing against my legs and then sitting on the arm of my chair to be stroked while I drank tea.
