My right shoulder has been bothering me for a couple of days, in ways that don't feel quite like the rotator cuff problems; I limited the upper-body part of my workout. After the gym, I went down to my usual place in Chinatown, where I had some mostly idle conversation with a table-mate who ordered steamed vegetable dumplings and volunteered that he's on a low-protein diet for the sake of his kidneys. I advised him that if he's trying to select a multivitamin, radio ads aren't relevant, and he could try Consumer Reports.

I then made a remarkably unsuccessful attempt to buy sports bras (I tried on things that were supposedly my size, and couldn't get the straps close enough to connect the hook-and-eye fastenings), wandered through Union Square and bought a small container of raspberries, and walked on down to a backpack and luggage shop, in search of a sensibly small daypack. They had a few that I liked enough to try; one of those had a couple of different pockets, and will hold my current notebook, without tempting me to also carry around three mass-market paperbacks, my gym gear, and five pounds (or kilograms) of miscellany, half of which is there just because I forgot to remove it. (The trim is lime green, but I've recently discovered what happens when I pick a bag for color, and it's the overload I've been carrying in a nice lavender pack.)

I also bought a half gallon of milk at the little store on 218th at Broadway, after having to throw away half of a gallon of milk from the bodega downstairs.
