The state of New York seems to have fairly well-written software: I can and did file my weekly unemployment claim online. When I did, it noted "you have not claimed since 7/10/05, was this because you worked?" I said yes, it asked me a couple of questions about that, including why I'm no longer working, then went on to the regular weekly questions (basically, did I work any days, was I unavailable any days, have I returned to work?). At the end, I got a message that my claim has been entered for processing, and because of the interruption, I'll be getting a form to fill out and send them.
My current "benefit year" runs through mid-March; if I haven't found something by then, I can start a new unemployment claim.
