After what sounds like a lot of work, Dreamwidth plans to roll out significant interface changes in the next few weeks (exact timing still undetermined). This is our chance to try out the new features while they're still in beta, and report any problems to the dev team so they can be fixed.

The developers are reading and responding to comments on the announcement post, including things like "I wish I could do this." Pleasingly, several of the answers are variations on "yes, you can (still) do this thing, here's how."

ETA: the new "create entries" page has been in beta since 2009. Also, in the comments to that post, [staff profile] denise explains why some things that people would like aren't in the now-in-beta code, and some of them may never be. The existing rich text editor is an eldritch horror from (literally) last millennium that breaks horribly in multiple contemporary browsers and we can't even make changes to it anymore because when we do the arcane sigils break the chains holding back R'lyeh where dread Cthulhu lies sleeping and will cause it to rise to the surface of the sea and devour the sun. This is an exaggeration for humorous effect, but only a tiny bit.
