My occupational therapy session this morning went well: the therapist is pleased that I have better range of motion for some (not all) of the things she was measuring, and she gave me another exercise. My grip strength is better than when the therapist measured it during my first appointment, and that's true of both hands, not just the one that's being treated. Also good, some of the things that hurt a few weeks ago still hurt, but the pain levels weren't as bad. Some of this may be that the brace is protecting me from straining the wrist, but whatever the reason, it's an improvement.
After OT, I went to Penzey's to get some spices, stopped in Arlington Center for a disappointing lunch -- not the taqueria's fault, it turned out I wasn't in the mood for lengua -- then at Lizzy's in Harvard Square for ice cream, before coming home. I now have two exercises to do with a one-pound weight, so poked my head into a sporting goods store near Penzey's to see if they had those (no). I'm not sure whether to just get a cheap bag of split peas at the supermarket, and hope that works better than the somewhat rigid package of lentils we have now, or look for an actual one-pound weight. (I currently have sets of 2-, 3-, and 5-pound weights, as well as my exercise elastics.)
I had a 10:30 appointment, and deliberately aimed to be a little early, in case I missed a bus. I made a good connection to the 86 bus, and used that saved time to get a muffin at Kickstand Cafe. At that hour of the morning, the 86 is frequent enough (every 15 minutes) to be a useful bus. The 66, a key bus route, is still more frequent than the 86, but in that direction the connection to the 77 is significantly easier on the 86. (On the way home, the connections in Harvard Square at identical, and the 86 to green line B connection is a several-block walk instead of just across the street.)
ETA: the therapist wrote back to me Tuesday morning, apologized for the delay, and said I can take the new exercise to as many as 20 reps, and could do it twice a day. So I did 13 reps earlier this afternoon (still with the bag of split peas). The dining room table seems to be a slightly better shape for this than my desk. The kitchen table is rectangular rather than round, and would probably be significantly better than either of those, and I will try it some cool day.
