phone problem

tl;dr: If you need to reach me, send email, my phone isn't working.

I downloaded and installed the latest iOS update to my phone, and it seems to have killed the battery/charge indicator. I suspect the indicator because the battery dropped rapidly from thinking it was at 50% to 12% while I did almost nothing with the phone--used a timer app a couple of times, but no phones or other apps--and then down to 1%, without the phone feeling at all warm.

Turning it off and leaving it plugged in overnight didn't help, and neither did plugging it into my computer (in hopes of connecting to iTunes and backing up data).

My old iPhone might be okay

So, after an annoying runaround, I got through to Apple tech support. They advised cleaning the charging cable connector. I did that, nothing seemed to happen, but I left it plugged into my computer. An hour later it's up to 17% battery, and I will be moving the sim card back from cattitude's old Samsung phone, where I'd put it as a necessary step to talking to Apple tech support.

They literally require you to have a code sent to your phone when you pick "device won't turn on" as the problem. *sigh*

That said, when I got this refurbished iPhone SE I figured I was buying time in the hope that Apple, or someone, would make another small-enough phone, and it looks like the iPhone 12 mini is that phone, so I will be buying one soon.

ETA: and then the charge dropped from 21% to 19% while the phone was sitting here quietly charging.

I walked a couple of blocks to get takeout for dinner: shrimp in black bean sauce, and pork lo mein. American Chinese food, which is one of the things that can slot into "comfort food" for me. (On the strength of having had one dose of the vaccine, I was willing to risk walking into the restaurant, giving them my phone number as identifier, and picking up a bag that they put down on the counter.)
