I just had what amounted to an unplanned rest day. We hadn't been going to much on New Year's Day, after shopping and wandering (me and [livejournal.com profile] rysmiel) and cooking ([livejournal.com profile] papersky) and then dinner and a party that went until 1 a.m. or so. But there was an outing to look at some sculpture down at Place des Artes; I'd been going to go on that, but was feeling slightly indisposed, so instead stayed here (Papersky's house), drinking a pot of oolong tea and rereading John Varley stories. I did leave the house briefly, for about three minutes on the balcony in mid-afternoon to get my minimum daily requirement of daylight.

We've been playing assorted games (including a simple path-building game brought over by Evelyn, who lives next door, which I want to get the name of), and talking and reading and such. I did much better than last year at not overextending myself, both getting to sleep earlier (though there was one night I didn't sleep very well despite that) and taking things somewhat easier during the day. I suspect this was helped both by my schedule, and by the otherwise-unfortunate fact that other people who had been going to be visiting had to cancel. Without other visitors who wanted to see and do lots of interesting things, I wasn't choosing between the desire to rest and the desire to go along. Yesterday's outing seemed nice but not astounding, and it hadn't been planned enough in advance for me to have a lot of time to get excited about it. With any luck, the next time I'm in a similar situation, I will remember and make sensible choices.

In a couple of hours I will head for the airport, home, and [livejournal.com profile] cattitude and the cat. Back to work, gym, etc. tomorrow. (I've barely exercised the last week.)

I should note here that, just as there was significantly less snow in Boston than in New York, the sidewalks and roads were all clear when I got to Montreal, and it hasn't snowed in the last few days. I am hoping this continues at least until I leave, since de-icing airplanes is time-consuming.
