[livejournal.com profile] cattitude and I got together with [personal profile] roadnotes this afternoon, for dim sum and general hanging out. Dim sum was at Oriental Garden, 14 Elizabeth Street; good, not astounding, I will likely go back. We had considered wandering out to Brooklyn afterwards, either to help her sort stuff in the apartment, or to stop at Sahadi to get useful things like dried blueberries, or even a combination. Instead, we wandered generally north and westward, and wound up at La Lanterna, on Macdougal Street, for further conversation and tea. By the time we got there, I was badly in need of caffeine; the tea served in Chinese restaurants is low in caffeine, and I didn't drink very much of it this time. For some of the wander, I was in a mood of "sure, fine, just don't ask for decisions here" which faded gradually into "either we are going straight to a cafe, or I am going to cross the street and go into that Starbucks," and Cattitude and Roadnotes decided on straight to the cafe, which was fine, but would have been better had my tea arrived faster.

Before getting to the cafe, we passed a truck that claimed to be "artisanal" ice cream; I asked for a taste of the "currant and cream," and then ordered and happily ate a single scoop sugar cone. I think the name of the company was Van Leeuwen; cattitude said he'd heard of it, favorably, but hadn't actually seen the truck previously. Roadnotes got a vanilla cone; cattitude tasted both of ours, but didn't then have room for ice cream.

We talked about various things that have been on our minds, including health issues and people we know in common, with some circling back to things along the lines of "I just heard from so-and-so after n years" and discussion of said so-and-so and who they remind us of. It felt settling as well as generally congenial, though I hadn't been feeling unsettled about the things we discussed. We also picked up some chocolate on our way home.

Also, after Cattitude remarked on how late the irises were in Inwood, we passed some on the other side of LaGuardia Place, and then I spotted some gorgeous irises, in several different colors, in Sheridan Square, and we detoured to look at them before getting on the subway. Classic purple, bright yellow, and some fine burgundies. Also red roses, a deeper red than we've seen thus far uptown.

I am defnitely feeling better physically than I was Thursday, or even yesterday; I continue to ice assorted joints and muscles, and take anti-inflammatories. Tomorrow I shall take things easy, physically.
