redbird: me with purple hair (purple)
( Apr. 5th, 2009 03:54 pm)
[livejournal.com profile] cattitude had to go to work today, and I'd wakened before he did, so I headed downtown as well, to use the gym when it wasn't crowded. I had a good workout and a nice lunch (Paul's Heavenly Burgers, on Third Avenue off St. Mark's Place). Then I took the subway back to midtown, and walked through Central Park from 59th and Seventh to Strawberry Fields. Daffodils and forsythia everywhere, and a willow, towering over the forsythia on the 65th Street Transverse like a pale echo of their color. Strawberry Fields had lots of chionodoxa (aka glory-of-the-snow, tiny blue-and-white flowers that grow from bulbs) and one pale pink azalea, pale enough that my first thought was flowering cherry or apple. Along West 72nd and 73rd Streets, with magnolias, to Broadway to get stuff at Fairway Market.

I have something that may do for the seder dessert, if I am not inspired to shop. I have chocolate and scallions and parve margarine and salami and kosher-for-passover matzoh meal. No actual matzoh, because I didn't want spelt, whole wheat, or egg matzoh. (Must keep looking; this is for [livejournal.com profile] adrian_turtle; I realized on the way home that whole wheat would have done.) Unfortunately, somewhere before I got to Strawberry Fields, my right foot started to hurt. It wasn't an incredibly long walk; shoe on wrong?

Still, it is spring, and I have new tie-dyed socks, and it's a warm sunny day. I'm waiting for a phone call, and if it comes soon enough I may try napping.

Also, the ornamental pears are in bloom on St. Mark's Place, and the forsythia up here in Inwood are finally blooming in profusion.
