redbird: me with purple hair (purple)

This workout was shorter than usual because my left elbow is bothering me again; once again, it's fine when I'm not using it, hurts a little with some uses, and some weight-lifting things hurt enough that I shouldn't do them. Nonetheless, when I got home I called my doctor's office and cancelled my Thursday morning appointment: it was follow-up from a month ago, but I'm basically better and, most important, my weight is stable, so we don't need to investigate possible problems of which a sudden weight loss could have been a warning.

After the workout, I got lunch in Chinatown, then went out to downtown Brooklyn for a handful of things from Sahadi: lemon curd, dried cranberries, duck pate, that sort of thing.

I thought it would make sense to go to Sahadi (downtown Brooklyn) first and then stop off in midtown Manhattan for copper wire (suited for jewelry) on the way home.

I didn't take into account that I can't get out of Sahadi without a heavy bag, though this time it was only about half full and I spent less than $20. Nor did I take into account general tiredness from schlepping, nor the nuisance of carrying said heavy bag up stairs to Metalliferous and having it in my way.

I thought of this before I got back on the subway. Thus, I have no copper wire. Lemon curd is some consolation, however.

There's a page of newspaper sitting on my desk, because I wrote down my workout numbers on it and brought it home.

It says "JANET" in large letters, white-on-photograph. And I glance at it and think "Dammit, Janet" even though it says "Jackson's new album" right under the first name.

I've already transcribed the relevant information, which means I can throw the paper away and stop worrying about this.

The New York Public Library has computerized book (and music, and video) checkout and return.

I hadn't realized until I looked at the slip on the CD I borrowed a few days ago what a useful thing they're doing. It doesn't just tell me that this item is due on thus-and-such date. It lists everything I currently have out with the due dates. This is particularly useful because I'd forgotten that I have a book due on the 29th. Returning it on time will be trivial, now that I've been reminded.

(The system also knows that I owe them 50¢, and the next time I go there, with any luck there will be a functioning cash register and we can clear this up. But the book in question is not listed as still checked out, so that's okay.)
