I walked my right foot off today, and in a way that made my ankle hurt. I've taken painkillers, and expect it to be better by morning. However, I suspect I could very easily aggravate it by too much walking (and standing, for that matter) during the con. I'm going to try to avoid massive amounts of wandering, even though that may well mean not walking down to the Union, buying ice cream at Babcock's, and eating it on the terrace. It will almost certainly mean avoiding the "oh, we'll figure out somewhere to eat" approach to restaurants, which is an excellent way to add mileage, and thus useful as exercise but not if you're trying to spare your feet. I'm fairly sure the heel problem is plantar fasciitis again, for which the care is NSAIDs, ice, and rest. Only one of those will be particularly easy at a con.

I am posting this publicly in the hopes that my friends will remember seeing it, and maybe even remind me to be sensible, or at least not make efforts to lure me into activities I would otherwise enjoy but should avoid for a bit. My normal habit at Wiscon has been to walk over to Michelangelo's at least three times a day for big cups or mugs of tea, because the hotel either can't or won't boil water. Fine, sensible--and a block or so each way, which starts to add up. And that's before we think about the Farmers Market, or State Street.
