After we brought [livejournal.com profile] julian_tiger home, we took him to our own vet, who diagnosed worms and bartinella, and put him on medication for both. I started joking that we had rescued him from the cat-rescue organization, and various people defended them on the grounds that these things are difficult to diagnose. It turns out that there's a little too much truth to that joke--the woman who runs (ran?) Kitty-kind, the group we got Julian from, has been found with the corpses of 200 cats in her backyard, and 38 cats living in her home.

But Julian is fine, happy and healthy and curled in my lap as I type this.

Yet another phishing scam, claiming to be from paypal and about problems with my account. Only this one had, at the very beginning of the subject line, the tag "[spam]".

It appears that my only net connectivity at the moment is via email.

I have no Web connectivity at the moment. Email seems fine, as is ftp to Panix. My Usenet connection is happy, and that's via a newsserver in Germany. But I can't get to any Web site, including www.panix.com. (Also, no LJ, of course, no weather or news or what-have-you. And yes, I have tried several different TLDs, including .gov and .uk.) I do so much of what I do by Web and email that I forgot the rest of the protocols until I was typing this email entry.

I don't understand this. Since it happened after I rebooted this machine, I'm going to try rebooting again, and hope that doesn't lose me email connectivity as well. ([livejournal.com profile] cattitude, who understands our hardware better than I do, isn't home right now to ask.)

If you really need me urgently, you have my phone number.

ETA: Yes, rebooting has fixed it.

The [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes community is dangerous. Usually, I read, sometimes giggle, sometimes comment, and go on to the next thing. But somehow, [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes has led me to joining a fanfic community. [livejournal.com profile] lower_tadfield is for Good Omens fans, and in practice seems to be almost entirely stories about (and occasional drawings of) Crowley and Aziraphale, and I'm enjoying reading it.
