redbird: closeup of me drinking tea, in a friend's kitchen (Default)

That was unexpectedly cheering.

I'm in a low-grade grumpy mood, I think largely because my feet hurt, and secondarily because I not only left the cinnamon sugar off the cakelings, I almost left the flour out, a circumstance that has me doubting my general attentiveness if not competence. (They're okay without cinnamon sugar, but would have been better with.)

I answered the phone largely on the possibility that it might be [livejournal.com profile] cattitude, who is on his way home from work. It was [livejournal.com profile] quility, and we had a nice chat about not much, including dissertation formatting and the difficulties thereof, and I'm feeling considerably better now.

This doesn't mean I'll answer the phone if it rings once Cattitude is home, however.

redbird: a New York subway train, the cars sometimes called "redbirds" (redbird train)

[I got this from [livejournal.com profile] lysana.]

My journal is called _____ because _____.
My subtitle is _____ because _____.
My friends page is called _____ because _____.
My username is ____ because _____.

My journal is called "Exuberantly Unnecessary" because it feels right--I try for exuberance, and much of what I do is luxury rather than necessity, LJ often included in that. It's often easier to be exuberant about the non-necessities than about the necessities: even the pleasant ones, like getting enough sleep, let alone the irritating (like laundry) or basically uninteresting (like taking vitamins).

My subtitle is, um, hang on...Objects of Dubious Provenance, but I don't remember why.

My friends page is (as of a couple of hours ago) called "Helping Redbird Save the Spotted Subjunctive" because I liked the phrase "save the spotted subjunctive" when [livejournal.com profile] stakebait used it elseweb, and it seemed a good idea to include my username in the name of my friends page.

My username is Redbird because I have a tattoo of a cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis, the bird, but it is so called because the bright red plumage of the male cardinal reminded someone of a cardinal's robes; the first English-speakers in this part of the world called them simply "redbird"), and when I was looking for a username on Eldermoo several years ago, I happened to think of that. And I like it, and kept using it.
