I did some proofreading this morning, and then Alda emailed me more work. Fine, dandy, I'll print this out. The laser printer decided to have conniptions at the end of the first article. I cleared the paper jam, but it still makes unhappy grinding noises instead of either printing or just sitting there quietly. This will, I hope, push us to finish setting up the printer-ness of the new fax machine/copier/color printer/dessert topping soon.
My fine SolarShield sunglasses (the ones that make me look vaguely like a Star Wars villain, but actually keep enough light out even on very bright days, and go over my glasses) have broken. A tiny bit of one hinge broke off (and landed in the eyeglass case). I will see if we have a good strong glue, and try to fix them, before I go buy another pair. They're plastic, and I know they wear out—I've bought
rysmiel a couple of pairs, since they don't seem to be easily or obviously available in Montreal—but it's still irritating.
I wrote a letter to the City Clerk, urging him to issue marriage licenses regardless of gender. There's nothing in New York law stopping him. [Thanks to
treadpath and
screaminghippo for the link confirming that.] I'll print that as soon as I have the printer, either printer, working. And then I went to email a similar letter to Mayor Bloomberg. I filled in the form on the nyc.gov site (I was there anyway, having used it to find the City Clerk's name and address), and got an error message saying I was coming from an "invalid URL". So either there's something weird going on at Verizon (given that they turned our DSL off for two days for, literally, no reason, this is entirely possible), or at the city's end. I wouldn't be entirely surprised to discover that they've built something that requires JavaScript and isn't bright enough to say that that's the problem.
Also, I need to finish a Turbozine tonight.
