redbird: closeup of me drinking tea, in a friend's kitchen (Default)
( Feb. 13th, 2004 09:30 am)
I was going to be diligent, get up and out and to the gym early. I should, in fact, be on a cardio bike right now.

The getting up part worked: [livejournal.com profile] cattitude woke me at 7, and I got right into the shower. And then my right ankle, which had felt a little sore last night, decided it was still sore. And then the arch of the foot hurt, suddenly and sharply, as I was walking back into the bedroom.

So, I've had tea and yogurt, and went out to look at the ducks, and then came back in here.

Making the best of it, I have sent off email about a possible freelance job [livejournal.com profile] roadnotes told me about. But I am Not Happy, partly for the obvious reason--random aches and pains are never fun--and partly because my plans have been upset. Fortunately, I have two or three days' supply of tangerines left.

Someone's comment in [livejournal.com profile] customers_suck informed us that it's random acts of kindness week at zir school. So I have sent a friend an unbirthday present, and am feeling much happier as a result.

"As always, there are only two proper ways to celebrate tomorrow. If you're someone who, like me, is concerned with historicity, put on a loincloth, kill a goat, and whack the person you have a crush on with it. However, if you're someone who is more staid and traditional, then certainly the only gift that could ever possibly express the depths of your feelings would be a bishop with a crippled or epileptic child at his feet. That's the kind of thing that makes my heart go all a-flutter."—[livejournal.com profile] ladysisyphus

(She notes, however, that if you want nothing to do with the best-known associations of 14 February, your other choices include the paired Saints Cyril and Methodius, creators of the Cyrillic alphabet. Or you can stay home and read a good book, on the grounds that a much-promoted holiday falling on a Saturday is going to be more hassle than it could possibly be worth.)

[livejournal.com profile] kightp and [livejournal.com profile] mactavish have linked to the Acme chocolate registry. As I thought, I registered there a few years ago, under my real name; if anyone noticed, they weren't in a mood to buy me chocolate. Maybe I should sign up again, as Redbird, and see if my tastes have changed.

I got a call from [livejournal.com profile] roadnotes's friend, and it looks promising. She likes my credentials, and we did a back-and-forth of "how much were you thinking of" and I think have a plausible number. Assuming, that is, that she decides that I'm a better choice than the other person she's talking to--but I should hear by Monday, and I gave her my mobile number in case I'm out. After we got off the phone, I said "voting trends" to myself and realized that it was an appealing, chewy phrase. Yes, I'm weird.

Apple cakelings this time; they aren't quite right, which may just mean the apple I used was too old. (They're edible, just not as good as usual.)
