Large weather we're having

It's snowing here in New York. LaGuardia Airport reports about an inch on the ground in the last hour. That's normal, for December--but on the way to finding the details beyond what I can see out the window, I went over to Weather Underground--and discovered, tucked in under the "Active Advisory: Winter Weather Statement" the phrase "North Atlantic: Tropical Storm Odette."

So I went over to NOAA, which tells me that the main risk is flash flooding in Haiti. And that the Eastern Pacific tropical storm season ended November 30.

So, in theory, did the North Atlantic storm season. It's supposed to run June 1–November 30. This year it started in April, and is still going in December. Fortunately, the forecasters and satellites work year round, even if they don't expect North Atlantic tropical storms this time of year. Nor'easters, yes.
