The writing is going slowly at the instant, probably because the current section involves various characters each waiting for the other to move first--Olivia and her mother each want an apology from the other, the fish are debating amongst themselves, and the most impetuous of the lot got a message explicitly telling him not to do anything until he receives further instructions.

I'm not very good at waiting, which may be why I'm having trouble writing this.

I've got a bit on the aliens, and Olivia and her mother have had a nice argument, removing one bit of waiting (though perhaps introducing others). Thus far today, an even 1000 words, and the total is now over 58,000. I just hope I don't have to do a lot of research into whale songs. If anyone local has a recording I can borrow, I'd be grateful.

There's snow on the ground. It blew in our faces, strongly, when we went out to get groceries earlier. All in all that was an unsatisfying shopping expedition: I walked out of the drugstore, leaving my would-have-been purchases on the counter, after the only cashier closed the register and, when I asked whether the store was currently selling anything, told me "no". And the supermarket didn't have a chicken we trusted. But we got assorted produce, and defrosted the lamb, so it'll be baked squash and lamb patties for supper.

Also on the positive side, when we got home [livejournal.com profile] cattitude had a phone call confirming that he has some paid work over the next few weeks, which is a relief to us both. He's diving in right away, including installing a new operating system on his computer. My next project doesn't start until the 15th, unless the man in Japan comes up with something quick and short-term.
