There was a different instructor this week--he's filling in for the regular Wednesday noon person while she's away.

He started us with a bunch of what I have trouble not thinking of as woo-woo stuff. Partly it's vocabulary. Tell me to take a minute and form an intention for the hour's yoga practice, I'm with you. Offer false-to-fact maybe-analogies about positive and negative energy, and I do my best to ignore it.

However, he spoke clearly: I'd made a point of choosing a spot front and center because I had trouble hearing the instructor last week. He asked at the beginning whether anyone had any body issues we needed to tell him about; I mentioned my knees, and a couple of times he came over and offered suggestions on things I should do a little differently because of them. He helped me and a couple of other people get into positions we were having trouble with: in particular, at one point we were supposed to do a stretch with the arms reaching back and holding feet or ankles. I can't stretch that far (at least not yet): he came behind me, and had me hold his arms so I could do the stretch for legs and back.

He doesn't usually teach at my regular club, but he has a 10 a.m. Friday class in Harlem, which I might try to get to next week. My current plan is to do two cardio and weight workouts, and one yoga class, a week. Plus whatever outdoor stuff--I haven't written up yesterday's beach trip yet, and we might go up in the hills to pick blackberries tomorrow--and the usual walking that's part of living where I do.
