redbird: closeup of me drinking tea, in a friend's kitchen (Default)

Well, I've had my exit interview. With the personnel department, not either of my bosses or the head of our department. Lena went over the medical insurance paperwork, told me how much unused vacation I'll be paid for, all that necessary stuff. She didn't even look at the pages that asked my opinion of the company; I wonder if anyone else will. I left a lot of things blank, unable to think of a useful answer to how they could have kept me from leaving, since it wasn't my idea in the first place. I'll turn in my keys Friday afternoon, and that will be that.

And I'm going to scream at the next person who, unasked, tells me that this is all for the best. No, it's not. I don't want to be out of work. I don't want to be hunting for a job during a recession, during a time when the local economy has been hit, hard, by a murderous assault. They're welcome to start sending their resumes out: more power to them. But I am not looking forward to this. If you don't know what to say, don't bring the subject up. (These are coworkers who started the discussion, not friends I've mentioned it to, or asked for sympathy, or any of that.)

Not having much else on my plate right now, I've been editing entries at Wikipedia <http://www.wikipedia.com>, an open source encyclopedia project, which warns potential contributors not to post anything if they don't want their words "mercilessly edited." I'm trying to be gentle with other people's words; thus far, I've added a few details to the entry for Ursula Le Guin, added to and corrected the one for New York City, and started a (so far sketchy) one on Ellis Island, which I hope someone else will improve.
