Why can't I work at home?

Okay, I know why. But the same reasons apply to other people.

We were supposed to have a defective cable fixed overnight: Anthony promised me it would be done before I arrived this morning. I came in, and found, instead, a message from him, with his number at the "remote office." Now, I'm promised he'll splice it tonight. Grumble, but the system is up for the moment, so I'll live. The person who needs zir hard disk replaced may not be as sanguine.

But the person whose hard disk needs replacement didn't get a call from Anthony, asking zir to check the printer to see if a couple of documents were coming out on it. And then again, asking me to check that they looked all right, and to show the other guy from MIS where the printer was.

There are reasons for coming into the office. Needing to see whether something is printing correctly on the office hardware is one of them. I'm not even in the same department as this guy! I've complained to my boss, but I doubt it will make a difference.

When I saw apricots at seven for a dollar on the fruit stand, I figured it was worth it: cheap fruit is good fruit, usually. It took a little hunting to find seven I liked--too many were overripe--but find them I did.

I peeled the label off one and ate it, a few minutes ago. I'd looked at the label to see where the fruit was from, and noticed that, under California, it said "aprium." Okay, fine, that sounds like an indoor garden planted in April.

One piece of ripe fruit and a Web search later, "aprium" turns out to be a (trademarked) apricot-plum hybrid. It's not as intensely, essentially apricot as I'd have preferred--but it was actually ripe, and ripe apricots have become a rarity in New York markets.
