I left a message for the potential employer yesterday late afternoon, asking for an update. When I came back from the gym this afternoon, I found a message on my machine: no news, because he's waiting on some budgetary stuff. About what I'd thought, but I think it's a good sign that he called back, and fairly promptly.
The workout itself went well; I took it a little easy on lower-body stuff, although the groin aches were gone completely this morning.
Cardio, 33 minutes, top heart rate 154--this is back where it belongs for timing, possibly slightly high on the heart rate, if the chart printed on the exercise bike is reliable (at age 40, it lists 153 as the 85 percent level).
Assisted chin-up: 10, 6
Calf raise machine: 45 pounds, 3 sets of 12
Adjustable row, 80 pounds, 3 sets of 15 (still paying attention to form)
Seated leg curl, 85 pounds, 3 sets of 13
Bench press, 50 pounds, 12, 12, 7
Tricep pulldown, 40 pounds, 3 sets of 15
Inverse wrist curl, using a weird bent handle because the proper short straight one has gone missing: 25 pounds, 15 reps
Crunches, 4 sets of 20
Back arches, 3 sets of 16
Tree, 3 repetitions of {2 on each foot}; wobblier on left foot
Bicep curl: 40-pound bar, 2 (too heavy); 35-pound bar, 2 sets of 15
Leg press (the other machine, which has me moving my whole body, not just the weights), 160 pounds, 12 (stopped after one set to be cautious after Monday)
Stretches
Comparing numbers with Monday, I seem to have done slightly less on the upper-body stuff as well. A good workout, though, based on how it felt at the time and how it feels now, a couple of hours later. I was pretty hungry by the time I was done, which didn't help.
It being that sort of weather, I went down to NY Noodletown for duck congee for lunch. I shared a table with a Chinese man, somewhat older than me, who looked startled when they put the bowl down in front of me, because he thought at first it was his; he'd been there longer and was still waiting. His--which looked to be pork and thousand-year-old-egg congee, and didn't come with the nice diced scallions--arrived a minute later. We spoke, a little: he asked if I liked Chinese food, and I said "Absolutely" and commented that it was good weather for congee, then we ate, and he said goodbye when he left.
