Not having heard from him, I called Rafiq about the writing project. Recorded announcement that the number is no longer in service. So I came home and sent him email. He called about 10 minutes later, explaining that he had lost the cell phone whose number I had had. So I now have an actual landline telephone number for him, a deadline slid one day later, and a promise of the draft table of contents by email within the hour.

In the meantime, I got up early this morning, went to the gym (another somewhat shorter workout), and had lunch with L.

Hip adduction, 105 pounds, 2 sets of 13. I didn't do the hip abduction because my hip hurt when I tried it.

Cardio, 30 minutes.

Bench press (which I did with my feet up on the bench, to see how that worked--not sure it makes a difference, but if it did, it doesn't seem to be for the better), 50 pounds, 13 reps, then 9+2.
Seated leg curls, 70 pounds, 3 sets of 15.
Tricep pulldown, 35 pounds, 3 sets of 15 (I think--I got distracted and it's possible that what I thought was the second set was really the third).

Mat work, crunches and arches, 2 sets of 15 each. The second set of crunches was difficult, so I didn't go to three.

Bicep curls, 35 pound bar, 3 sets of 15. Wrist curls with the one-pound weight between sets of bicep curls, for a total of two sets of 15 on each hand.

Stretches: lower back, hamstrings, hip/gluteal, and groin.

Seated leg press, 140 pounds, 2 sets of 15.

Stretched quadriceps.

UPDATE: So of course the email arrived, and I looked at it and went "I can't cope with this" and decided not to even start on it until tomorrow. I was functioning enough to know that my "I can't handle this" reaction was an indicator of my tiredness, not of my history knowledge or writing skills, though not functional enough to actually work on it.
