It was a whim, mostly: he was sprawled on "my" side when we were ready to go to bed, and for reasons I no longer remember, I lay down, though with my glasses still on. He suggested we stay where we were, and see how that worked--sleep on different lumps in the futon. So we moved all the pillows around and went to bed, with the agreement that if it didn't work we'd swap back.
He fell asleep quickly. I fell asleep a little more slowly, in part because I was on the side where Artemis normally jumps up after we turn the lights out, and Andy strokes her briefly before she wanders over to me. She jumped up and--things weren't right. I did my best to make her comfortable, but she's set in her ways. If we do this for long, she'll probably sort it out, but I expect to switch back fairly soon: the alternative would be to move everything from each bedside table to the other, so I can get at what I'm used to having handy, and he can get at his stuff.
