redbird: closeup of me drinking tea, in a friend's kitchen (Default)

After all the buildup about huge storms, at lunchtime today it was just an ordinary rainy Monday. I didn't even need an umbrella.

Walked over to Sixth Avenue, got some takeout sushi, walked back.

I don't like Times Square, these days. I don't like the crowds, I don't like the pressure, I don't like the artificiality and the look that this could be anywhere in America, only on steroids.

On a rainy Monday afternoon, it works. The neon isn't exactly subdued, but the color is welcome instead of aggressive. The place isn't empty, but there's room to walk, and space to see what's around you.

I hereby forgive the city Landmarks Commission, even if they weren't designing for slow, damp March afternoons.
