Same-sex marriage rulings

I am pleased and relieved by the Supreme Court ruling striking down part of DOMA, and unsurprised that they have ducked the issue on the California marriage cases.

IANAL, but it looks as though, in addition to symbolism, this is a significant benefit for same-sex couples in a dozen states, in terms of federal income tax, benefits, and immigration.

Oh, and try a google search today on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer.

I would be so much happier about these decisions if it wasn't for the spate of horrible decisions last week (and my ongoing fear that we will lose the mainstream gay community as progressive allies once they get what they want).

Nonetheless, there's nothing bad about this!

Yes. There are times that it feels like we're being told that it's fine to be gay as long as you're white, middle to upper class, and monogamous.
