Linking: how innate is sexual orientation?

Natalie Reed has some interesting thoughts about the ways sexuality is and isn't innate, how culture affects our desires, and the effects of asserting that of course orientation doesn't change. I probably don't agree with her on all of this, but the questions are worth thinking about.

That was fascinating reading indeed. *nod* I have seen it happen in discussions that try to be about the potential mutability of sexual orientation, where one person tries to say, "It is possible that someone's sexuality may change" and another hears/remembers hearing, "If you TRIED HARD ENOUGH you could choose to be straight instead" and then everything goes downhill in a flaming ball of suck.
