[livejournal.com profile] gothgeekgirl and her husband [livejournal.com profile] diskerror are in town for the weekend, and [livejournal.com profile] cattitude, [livejournal.com profile] roadnotes, and I just had dinner with them in the Village. We went to Ido Sushi, the same place Roadnotes and I went a few weeks ago; this time the chef sent out a complimentary plate of seared tuna and mushrooms after our salads. I suspect this is connected to how empty the place was: it seemed as though the entire population of Greenwich Village had left town for the weekend. (Near the end of our meal, another party came in. I wasn't expecting huge crowds, but 6:30 isn't incredibly early for dinner, and we took our time.) So, nice fish and excellent conversation: mostly catching each other up on our lives, with some references back to the relatively distant past.

Before that, I went to the gym, because I'd been feeling vaguely grumpy and working out often helps. It was a good workout, and I left about 10 minutes before the gym closed (this branch is only open till six on Sundays), which gave me time to stop at Penn Station and sort out my railroad ticket refund on the way downtown. There was almost no line, and the clerk was helpful and straightforward.

After dinner, Roadnotes, Diskerror, and Gothgeekgirl went on to a piano bar, and I headed home, because I was already something of a tired hobbit. Exercising is very good for my mood, but it does use physical energy. I might have stayed out longer for more conversation, but piano bars aren't a good place for that.

Gym details:
Cardio, 11 minutes, top heart rate 129 (not bad, given that I'm keeping the resistance lower than I used to, for the sake of the knees)
Chest press, 50 pounds, 2 sets of 12
Wrist curl, 30 pounds, 2 sets of 15
Balance ~fly (elbows up more, as advised by Emilie), 50 pounds, 15 with each foot forward; 35 pounds, 7 each
Half roller: a bit of just standing; lateral raise, 2.5 pounds each hand, 15
A bit of: sitting on exercise ball, scoot forward into a bridge, then back (5? times)

Squats with ball against wall, 2 sets of 15 (one set before, and one after:)
Calf raise with ball, 15
Balancing on foam roller, three limbs off ground, 8 with each foot up (smooth/unwobbly: I think the ways the surface I was working on is solider than the foam mat I have at home help).
Crunches, 3 sets of 30
Back arches, 2 sets of 8
Hamstring bridge with feet on roller, rolling the roller toward me: either 8 or 3, depending how we count the first six, which were rolling the cylinder back and forth while holding the rest of the position.

Biceps curl, on exercise ball, 10 pounds each hand, 2 sets of 20
Row, on exercise ball, 30 pounds, 3 sets of 15
Twisting one-hand row, 20 pounds, 10 with each hand (need to check with Emilie on this one)
Stretches

I feel something like 95% of the city's population has left town for the weekend, with about 50% of the volume made up for in the tourists who are having a Labor Day vacation in the city. Everywhere I've been has been quiet. I had Thai on Friday night with a few friends in Midtown, at a place that is usually hopping--and we were the only ones there. They seemed rather grateful to have our party of nine walk in the door.
