redbird: a bit of fractal (mandelbrot)

I have seen one count it one pretty rocket blossom on the northern horizon. Heard lots of explosions, but saw only the one.

Also someone playing with a sparkler on the sidewalk on Second Avenue, but that was yesterday, and I couldn't quite figure out if he was intoxicated or trying to sell the things. (If I'd been more awake myself, it might have been clearer.)

But when we went out before, the park was full of fireflies and people playing with bright-colored glowsticks. My favorite was the kid who had wrapped it around the hub of a bicycle wheel, so it spun as she rode along.

Hmm. Lots of them out this way, I have to say. And not the bog standard cheap ones, people spent some serious money this year. There were professional quality shells going off from residential neighborhoods all around, and a few in mine as well.

Sat out with a bug lamp next to me and a cold glass of lemonade and watched them go off just on the other side of the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway, or down the block while the kids chased fireflies.

Not a bad way to spend a summer's night.
