Warm and cozy
We have heat again.
In the intervening time, I have been to the gym, spent an hour at the library and checked out two books, and had a very pleasant dinner at Mingala with the mysterious D.,
roadnotes,
baldanders, and
cattitude. Good food and good conversation; afterwards, we bought socks, and mourned some of the changes to St. Marks Place/Eighth Street, and I explained my theory that if I needed a new tattoo artist, I might go to a place that also did piercings, henna, or both, but not to one that sells bongs or trashy lingerie.
I wasn't going to go to the gym today, but they have heat and hot water, and I wanted a nice hot shower. And if I was going anyway, I might as well exercise:
Cardio, 17 minutes, top heart rate 167. I really ought to check whether there's a point I should be worried about going above. The standard formula for target heart rate makes mine 142.
Chest press, 75 pounds, 9; 65 pounds, 12
Calf raise, 75 pounds, 12, 8; 67.5 pounds, 10
Balance ~fly, 50 pounds, 15 with each leg forward
Leg press, 250 pounds, 3 sets of 12, a bit smoother than last time
Wrist curl, 30 pounds, 3 sets of 15, the second and third set while standing on a balance pad
Crunches, 3 sets of 30
Back arches, 3 sets of 17
Tree, 4 sets of {3 on each leg}
Balance lateral raise, 5 pounds each hand, 2 sets of 15
Balance lateral raise, 2.5 pounds each hand, walking in place, 15 (with a bit of extra walking between some of the arm-raising, as my arms were getting tired)

I think I notice the water pipes before the tobacco, so such places are eliminated before I see that the store sells tobacco. I'm not opposed to bongs as such, it just makes me think that such a place probably isn't focused enough on the tattooing part of their business, and that this may be reflected in art quality, cleanliness, or both. I wouldn't get tattooed in the back of a Chinese restaurant either.
