In Conjunctions 39 Peter Straub has a strange and wonderful story called "Little Red's Tango"; in one sections, called "The Beattitudes of Litte Red, II," it says, "Bargain up, not down." There's been a lot of discussion of this; it was really said by someone Peter Straub knows. So you have an authority to quote!
