Failure to communicate

I thought I had an appointment for a research/focus group sort of interview this evening, as a "floater" to fill in if one of the people expected at 7 or 8 didn't show up.

I got there slightly early, as requested, after stopping in at a bead store and buying some pretty things and some useful tools and supplies to go with them. The woman at the front desk was polite, but puzzled.

After a bit of investigation, it turned out that the appointment was supposed to be for 7 a.m. Now, I'm more of a morning person than some, but being in Midtown and coherent at that hour would have been beyond me. It certainly didn't occur to me to ask them which 7 a.m. they meant, and apparently it didn't occur to the woman who arranged this to specify.

When that was all sorted out, they gave me a fraction of the planned payment "for your trouble" and asked if I wanted something to drink, which I declined, because I had a bottle of water.

It was a pleasant walk, on a pleasant evening, but I am feeling tired enough that it's probably just as well that I didn't have to be there for an hour or more.

I'm an obligate morning person, and would never have occured to me that it would be a breakfast focus group.
