It's dog Latin, really

The editor at ACM was surprised and pleased when I told him I'd fixed the Latin.

In this case, what I have is pattern recognition and a good shelf of reference books. "Mal" looked wrong, and was, and after the second thing I needed to look up, I didn't re-shelve the Latin dictionary. The only really problematic one was that he'd used "pendeo" for "vacillating," and it means "decisive."
