Le Guin's statement about the film that claims to be based on her books begins " I've tried very hard to keep from saying anything at all about this production, being well aware that movies must differ in many ways from the books they're based on, and feeling that I really had no business talking about it, since I was not included in planning it and was given no part in discussions or decisions.

This is why when I get anything from film people, I hide it until it's too late to reply and then throw it away. Because I might need the money, but I wouldn't take it from people who wanted to put nails into my head either.

That's a particularly good imaginary example of studio inanity, not just for utterly missing the point of the book, but also since as far as I can tell, the adolescent male demographic does dig chicks with swords.
