It's true, but some connection is better than none. I've realized since being on LJ (all of 3 months now) that at least I know what's going on in some people's lives like yours, where before it was once a year if we were lucky and we'd be too busy at a con somewhere to really connect on all levels. But I am glad I live close to some and you're right, there's a big difference.

LJ goes a long way to fill in the 49-week gaps betwen my frantic three-week visits to the US, but I know what you mean. Why is it that so many of the people I most want to hang out with live so damn far away? Weeks hang heavy.

That is entirely true for me as well, only you put it far more elegantly than I do. My usual line is 'I hate bloody geography'.
