being cautious

I was reminded of this while discussing wanting to go to the supermarket and pick out my own produce, and there are worse mottos right now:

I'm not stupid, I'm not expendable, and I'm not going.

That's a pretty good motto.

Possibly secondarily, but it's actually a line from one of the earlier episodes of Blake's 7, said by Avon, who is the only character in the show with a sense of self-preservation.

I believe in the episode, it's actually "I'm not expendable, I'm not stupid, and I'm not going, but the other order is the way it's more often quoted.

That may be where the songwriter got it from.

I keep reminding myself that my friends who work grocery/retail DO NOT WANT ME IN THEIR STORES. They want my MONEY, heck yeah, but my actual self, no.

Good motto.

I'm a bit surprised to find myself currently in quarantine. That's per my medical provider and lasts until I receive results for the Covid test that was originally scheduled for 5:40pm tonight, but which I managed to have done at a CVS drive-through yesterday noon.

The impetus for the test were the 5 days of mild lurgy I've finally emerged from combined with the fact that I have a dermatology appointment this Friday. It's not urgent, but I've just as soon have the new-this-summer-and-not-going-away bump looked at now rather than waiting another couple of months (we scheduled this appointment 2 months ago). So I'd like to keep if possible, but I'm unwilling to do so unless I have test results showing I didn't have Covid. Ah, life in the pandemic times. Possible Covid trumps bump; bump trumps Covid-free.

Getting tested over the weekend would have been best, but I was trying too hard to do it directly with my clinic as I know their drive-through set-up from a routine, pre-procedure medical test in October. Since it was a long holiday weekend, my only option was to go to an Urgent Care facility. If I had *needed* medical care, I absolutely would have gone, but I was only mildly ill. Well, yes, I felt flattened, but all of the Covid-like symptoms were minor at best other than the total exhaustion, and there were easily other reasons for that.

Anyway, if I had Covid, I didn't want to be inside an Urgent Care facility (or anywhere indoors with people in order to not possibly expose them) *just* to be tested, and if I didn't have it (as I expect), I didn't want the exposure risk to me. So I waited until Monday morning, when the regular clinic was open again. That meant rescheduling this Wednesday's oven repair visit since I don't want people possibly exposed to whatever I had by coming into the house, and might mean having to reschedule the dermatology appointment. We'll see.

Long response to your delightfully brief motto; it's part of my attempt to be more active on Dreamwidth, and to be more in touch with you in general. The good news is that I've felt like Regular Geri rather than Flattened Geri for the last 34 hours and counting.

Onward.
