first fruit

I harvested the first cucumber from my garden this morning, and we had it for lunch. It was good -- not astounding, but better than I've been getting from the supermarket.

Another day in the sun would have been good for it, but I was impatient. I'm going to give the next two more time to ripen, and hope for sunshine tomorrow or Sunday.

Yum!

What did you do with your cucumber?

I wonder if you could make tzatziki with soy yogurt or silken tofu.

I currently have a cucumber, sliced translucently on my paddle slicer, soaking in rice vinegar, sugar, salt, and two kinds of ginger. I hope it comes out well.

ooh, that marinating cucumber sounds really good, and I'm not allergic to any of the ingredients. I sure wish I had some in the garden.

Nice!

I tend to be a bit of a traditionalist with cucumber and usually create a vinaigrette from my many versions (I have an egg allergy so vinegars are a must for dressings).

If you are the only one eating the tzatziki, it should be easier for you to harvest "enough cucumbers at once" to make it.

How satisfactory, to have something that you've grown in your own garden!
