quotidian

Since [livejournal.com profile] womzilla dropped off NY Review of SF proofs last night, I had a good reason to get downtown, so I went to the gym, bounced out to Atlantic Avenue to buy tea, basmati rice, and other useful and tasty things, then took the proofs (finished on the subway around 5:35) to the NYRSF meeting, where I hung out, briefly discussed dubious saints and Voice of the Faithful with TNH, and helped ship books for review. (The main meeting business was proofreading, since most of the people there aren't conveniently located for Womzilla to drop proofs at their homes.)

Hip adduction 110 pounds: 12, 9 (I didn't do the alternation with abduction because someone else was using that machine.

Cardio: 33 minutes, top heart rate 148. (I tried following Anmar's suggestion to check my pulse one minute after finishing cardio exercise, and couldn't find my pulse.)

Hip abduction: 95 pounds, 7 reps. My thighs were sore yesterday from Monday's workout: I need to get my strength back on both the hip things.

Bench press: 50 pounds, 12, 6+3; 45 pounds, 8

Seated leg curl: 75 pounds, 3 sets of 15

Adjustable row: 100 pounds, 3 sets of 15 (the machine I like was back in working order)

Triceps pulldown: 30 pounds, 15, 15, 11. The first set had me thinking it might be time to up the weight, and by the third 15 reps was too many. Maybe try 35 pounds and sets of 10?

Back arch/lift using a small exercise ball, 15 reps. Crunches, 3 sets of 17. My regular back arches, 2 sets of 15. Tree, wobbly.

Bicep curls, 35 pounds, 3 sets of 15. Alternating with wrist curls (underhand) with a 1-pound weight, 2 sets of 15 for each hand.

And then I discovered that while just milk and orange juice is nice, adding vanilla gives it the wondrous morir soñando nature. (A proper morir soñando also has a bit of sugar, I think, and cinnamon, and the whole is done up with crushed ice rather like a milkshake.

Morir soñando

I just read three or four morir soñando recipes on the web, and none of them mention cinnamon. One of them adds brandy, but basically it's just milk and orange juice (or grapefruit, lime, or "sour-orange" juice) and sugar and crushed ice. The recipe here (http://www.woodtv.com/global/story.asp?s=973059&ClientType=Printable) substitutes Tang for the orange juice and sugar. At the other end of difficulty, this recipe (http://sneakykitchen.com/Recipes/morir_sonando.htm) calls for squeezing the limes or lemons yourself.

Sounds good, though. I'll have to try it.

Oh dear. Something new and absolutely enticing to try.

Vanilla? Hmmm, can't wait - our vanilla is 3/4 cup vodka with a finely chopped vanilla bean living in the bottom. "Die dreaming"? I'll drink to that! ;)
