Gym, research

Since I felt that I was still getting over having overdone things on Monday, I took it a bit easy at the gym, which meant I was done there sooner than usual.

After exercising, I walked down to the Pret a Manger on 42nd Street across from the main library. The sandwiches are okay, but the reason I go there is that I can count on them for an actual cup of hot black tea. I drank tea and ate turkey on a baguette, then went to the library. A couple of hours in the rather attractive reading room left me with no useful results beyond a couple of scribbled journal names to hunt for later. However, on the subway platform heading home, I got an idea, which proved fruitful once I was back in front of my machine and I could google. Results have been emailed to the client, who I hope will be satisfied. (As far as I can tell, the specific data they want either were never collected, or were never published in any useful/findable format.)

I cashed yesterday's unemployment check this morning, and today's mail contains another--the first was for the week I thought I might not be getting paid for, and this is the one for last week. (I'd been vaguely confused, thinking yesterday's check was for last week, and wondering why they hadn't taken out for the one day I reported doing freelance work. Now it all makes sense--and I have a bit more money.)

gym numbers )

Despite having taken it easy at the gym, I discarded two different tentative "I could run this errand" ideas in favor of heading straight home to my tea kettle after the library, because I realized I was standing on the sidewalk in front of the library, being fuzz-brained.

So long, and thanks for all the fish

[livejournal.com profile] cattitude is watching the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy film, on DVD from Netflix. I watched about the first 20 minutes of it with him, before it got too flickery for me, between the cute animations of the Guide itself and the amount of random flickering in the Vogon ship.

Thus, all I'm sure of is that I like the opening musical number, I like the guy who plays Ford, and I wish I could still comfortably watch animation and random lighting changes.

Things like this are why I don't go out to the movies much--having to stop watching a DVD 20 minutes in is annoying, but it's less awkward and irritating than walking out in a theatre would be, even if I were alone.
