I've talked to Debbie, the person who is assigning my work, and she says it would generally make more sense for me to come in at 9:15 (and leave at 5:15), instead of coming in at 9. This was my suggestion: it seemed to make sense in terms of the workflow here, and I can use the extra 15 minutes in the morning, either to wake up more gently or to sleep in. I may do 9 a.m. some mornings--when there's work from the night before--and 9 others.

I've mentioned that this company has TV news playing all the time in the lunchrooms and reception areas.

This afternoon, I was thus exposed to CNN covering a Major League Baseball announcement about restricting the use of "performance enhancing substances." I was in the pantry waiting for the microwave to finish boiling water for my cup of tea. Next to me was a six-foot-tall machine with a large, friendly picture of a bottle of Pepsi.
