I don't know that much about tattoos. Wil it always be this vivid and detailed, or do modern tattoos still fade and smudge as they heal?

Either way, congratulations on getting something done that obviously means a lot to you. Is the timing (a change to your body close to Rosh Hashanah/Yom Kippur, to begin the year) coincidental or intended?
